# Edit Custom Role

## Purpose

Use this guide to update a custom role’s title, permissions, status, or assigned users.

## Before you start

* You must have permission to edit roles.
* You must already be on the **Roles** list.
* Only **Custom** roles should be edited. Built-in **System** role permissions cannot be manually changed.
* Remember that permission changes can affect all users assigned to the role.

## How to get there

1. Log in to Compassly.
2. Select **System settings**.
3. Select **Roles**.

## Steps

1. On the **Roles** list, find the custom role you want to update.
2. Open the row action menu and select **Edit**.
3. Review the warning message if the system tells you the change will affect assigned users.
4. Update the role title, permissions, status, or assigned users as needed.
5. Click **Save**, **Apply**, or **Update**.
6. Confirm the updated role information appears correctly when you reopen the role.

## Role differences

* **Super Admin** and **Admin** can edit custom roles.
* **System** role permissions cannot be manually edited.
* **Delete** remains a Super Admin-only action.

## What happens next

After you save the role, users assigned to that custom role will follow the updated permission set.
