## Purpose of Programs

*"A behavior targeted for increase or reduction determined by the needs of a client through a BCBA's assessment and clinical decision." (Emily Andreola, BCBA)*

Programs represent the active tracking of a behavior demonstrated by a Client, both positive and negative. As such, they can use either a Target Skill or a Maladaptive as a baseline (thought currently only Target Skills are used for the construction of a Program). A well constructed and maintained Program communicates the behavior being targeted, a clear goal for that behavior, how the behavior will be observed (The Data Collection Method, DCM), the basline value for the prescence of the behavior prior to initiating the Program, the metric by which the goal should be demonstrated correctly in the form of an operative (Greater, less than, equal to, etc) and a percentage, the number of team members who need to observe the correct behavior, and the span of consecutive days over which the behavior should be demonstrated.

## What This Section Covers

This material covers how to use Client Programs, specifically how to view, create, clone, import, track, archive, review mastery readiness, confirm mastery, and manage Programs assigned to a specific Client.

## Before You Start

Before reviewing this section, confirm the following:

* You must be able to sign into Compassly.
* You are able to navigate to ***Clients*** via the navigation menu on the left side of any page in Compassly.
* You must have the permission "View client's program list".
* Be aware that some actions depend on the Client’s status:
  * *Active* Clients support creation and most ongoing work.
  * *Inactive* Clients are kept for reference and reactivation.
* Program actions depend on the Client status and the selected Program status: **In progress**, **Archived**, or **Mastered**.

## How To Get There

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. In the left navigation menu, select ***Clients*** to activate a dropdown menu.
3. In the left navigation menu, select ***All clients***.
4. Select a Client whose Programs you which to interact with, open the Client's profile details in a view or edit capacity (see the Guide [Edit Client Profile](https://github.com/CompasslyYR/compassly-kb/tree/main/clients/programs/edit-client-profile.md)), and click the "Open program details" button, which sits below the page title and breadcrumb).

#### OR

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. In the left navigation menu, select ***Clients*** to activate a dropdown menu.
3. In the left navigation menu, select ***Programs / Maladaptives***.

## What You Can Do Here

Depending on your role, you may be able to:

* View a Client's Programs
* Search for a specific Program associated with a Client
* View a Program's details
* Add a new Program to a Client
* Edit an existing Program associated with a Client
* Delete a Client's Program
* Archive a Client's Program (singularly or in batch)
* Clone a Client's Program
* Import Programs in bulk to a Client
* Restore a Client's Program fron archives
* How to assign Mastery to a Client's Program (singularly or in batch)
* Understand the specifics that determine what Program Mastery is, and why Program might not be considered ready for Mastery
* Track a Program's data
* View a Program's data in the form of a graph
* Add a custom event to a Program's graph
* View a Program's Task Analysis Matrix

## Notes

* The upper-right status dropdown controls which program list is shown.
* **Add new program** creates a client-level program only.
* **Clone program from library** creates a client-level snapshot from Program Library.
* Editing a cloned or client-level program does not change the library source.
* If a client is deactivated, in-progress programs are automatically archived and the archive info bubble helps explain why.
* Program mastery is partly automatic and partly manual. A program must first meet its mastery criteria before it becomes **Ready for mastery**. An authorized user then confirms whether the program should move to **Mastered** or continue tracking.
* Mastery readiness depends on the target being met, enough team members individually meeting that target on each qualifying day, and the required number of consecutive passing days. The same team members do not need to appear every day.

## Role Differences

* ***Super Admin:*** Has full access to all Program details and Compassly features.
* ***Admin / Supervisor:*** Has full access to all Program details and Compassly features **EXCEPT** for the ability to Delete Programs.
* ***Clinician:*** Has access to everything **EXCEPT**: Import Program, Download Programs, Track Past Attempts, and Delete Programs.
* ***Basic:*** Only has access to: View a Client's Program List, view a Program's Details, View Program's Graph, and Track Current Attempts.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://compassly.gitbook.io/compassly-docs/core-modules/clients/programs.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
