# Edit Medication

**Audience:** Super Admin, Admin, Supervisor, Clinician\
**Page type:** Task Guide\
**Status:** Draft\
**Owner:** Compassly Documentation Team\
**Last verified:** 2026-04-03

## Purpose

Use this guide to update an existing medication record in the Medication library.

## Before you start

Before editing a medication, confirm the following:

* You can open **Medications → Medication library**.
* The dataset dropdown is set to **Medications**.
* You know which medication record you want to update.

## Important

Medication library records behave like snapshots in client medication workflows.

Changes made here affect future assignments. Existing client medication records keep the information captured when they were assigned.

## How to get there

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. Select **Medications** in the left navigation.
3. Select **Medication library**.
4. Confirm the dropdown is set to **Medications**.

## Steps

1. Find the medication you want to edit.
2. Open the available row action menu for that medication.
3. Select **Edit**.
4. Update one or more fields:
   * **Medication name**
   * **General description**
   * **Side effects**
5. Review the changes.
6. Click **Apply** or **Update**, depending on the action shown in your workspace.

## Role differences

* **Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor / Clinician:** Can edit medication records.
* **Basic:** Cannot edit medication records.

## What happens next

After you save the changes, the updated medication remains in the library for future use.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://compassly.gitbook.io/compassly-docs/core-modules/medications/medication-library/edit-medication.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
