# Units of Measurement

**Audience:** Super Admin, Admin, Supervisor, Clinician\
**Page type:** Overview\
**Status:** Draft\
**Owner:** Compassly Documentation Team\
**Last verified:** 2026-04-03

## Purpose

Use the **Units of measurement** catalog to manage the standardized unit values available in the medication workflows. Keeping this list current helps teams document dosage amounts consistently when assigning medications to clients.

## Before you start

Before working in this catalog, confirm the following:

* You are signed in to Compassly.
* You can open **Medications** from the left navigation.
* You can access **Medication library**.
* You understand that unit values in the library act like snapshots when used in client medication assignments. Updating or deleting a unit in the library does not retroactively change existing client medication records.

## How to get there

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. In the left navigation, select **Medications**.
3. Select **Medication library**.
4. In the upper-right dropdown, select **Units of measurement**.

## What you can do here

Depending on your role, you may be able to:

* view the current list of units
* search and review existing entries
* add a new unit
* edit an existing unit
* delete a unit

## Role differences

* **Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor / Clinician:** Can view the unit list.
* **Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor:** Can add and edit units.
* **Super Admin / Admin:** Can delete units.
* **Basic:** Does not have access to this catalog.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://compassly.gitbook.io/compassly-docs/core-modules/medications/medication-library/units-of-measurement.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
