# Add New Unit of Measurement

## Purpose

Use this guide to create a new unit in the **Units of measurement** catalog for future medication assignments.

## Before you start

Before you begin, confirm the following:

* You are signed in to Compassly.
* You can access **Medications → Medication library**.
* You have permission to add units.
* You know the exact unit label you want to create.

## How to get there

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. In the left navigation, select **Medications**.
3. Select **Medication library**.
4. In the upper-right dropdown, select **Units of measurement**.

## Steps

1. Open **Medications → Medication library**.
2. In the upper-right dropdown, select **Units of measurement**.
3. Click the **+** button.
4. In the add form or modal, enter the unit name.
5. Select **Apply** or **Save** to create the unit.

## Role differences

* **Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor:** Can create new units.
* **Clinician / Basic:** Cannot create new units.

## What happens next

After you save the new unit, it becomes available for future medication assignments that use units of measurement. Existing client medication records are not retroactively changed.
