# Usage Methods

**Audience:** Super Admin, Admin, Supervisor, Clinician\
**Page type:** Overview\
**Status:** Draft\
**Owner:** Compassly Documentation Team\
**Last verified:** 2026-04-03

## Purpose

Use the **Usage methods** catalog to manage the standardized administration-method values available in the Medication Library. Keeping this catalog current helps teams document medications consistently across the workspace.

## Before you start

Before working in **Usage methods**, confirm the following:

* You are signed in to Compassly.
* You can open **Medications** from the left navigation.
* You can access **Medication library**.
* Your role includes the action you want to complete.

## How to get there

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. In the left navigation, select **Medications**.
3. Select **Medication library**.
4. In the upper-right dataset dropdown, choose **Usage methods**.

## What you can do here

Depending on your role, you may be able to:

* view the list of usage methods
* search the list
* add a new usage method
* edit an existing usage method
* delete a usage method

## Role differences

* **Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor / Clinician:** Can view the usage-method list.
* **Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor:** Can add and edit usage methods.
* **Super Admin / Admin:** Can delete usage methods.
* **Basic:** Does not have access to this catalog.

## Important behavior

Usage-method values act like snapshots when used in client medication workflows. Updating or deleting a usage method in the library does not retroactively change existing client medication records; it affects future use in the library workflow.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://compassly.gitbook.io/compassly-docs/core-modules/medications/medication-library/usage-methods.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
