# Delete a Shift

## Before You Start

* You must have permission "Manage shifts and notes".
* A shift in **Published (Note Signed)** status cannot be deleted directly — it has to be unlocked first. See [Unlock and Edit a Signed Progress Note](/compassly-docs/core-modules/shifts/shift-management/unlock-signed-progress-note.md).
* Deleting a shift cannot be undone.

## Where To Start

1. Sign in to Compassly.
2. In the left navigation menu, select ***Shifts***.
3. In the left navigation menu, select ***Shift Management*** from the dropdown menu under ***Shifts***.
4. Click the shift you want to delete.

## Available Actions

1. **Click Delete on the shift.**
   * Open the shift and click ***Delete***.
2. **Confirm the deletion.**
   * A confirmation window asks you to confirm before the shift is permanently removed from the schedule.

## Role Differences

* ***Super Admin / Admin / Supervisor:*** Can delete any shift they have access to.
* ***Clinician / Basic:*** Can delete shifts assigned to themselves.
